How Does HeroClix Work?
Each week, the judge sets what the event will be. At times, there are suggestions From Wizkids for certain events, but mostly it is left up to the Judge.
HeroClix games and terminology have evolved a bit as Wizkids has moved from Topps to Neca. Here is an explanation of terminology used for tournaments:

| Golden Age (Unrestricted) |
You can play any figures from any set, retired or active. Rules and point total are set by the judge. |
| Modern Age (Restricted) |
You can only play figures from active sets. |
| Floor Event | At least 50% of the current game's point build must come from the most currently released set. Rules are preset by the Wizkids rule book. Point total for build force is set by judge. |
| Pay Event (Sealed Event) |
Players buy 2 boxes or boosters at the venue, and build a specific point force |
| BFC Cards | Battle Field Condition cards. These cards change the conditons of the map or forces for the game. For example, when you use the BFC Dark shadows, the playing field is set at night, and effects each figure's firng range. |
| FC Cards | Field Condition cards. These cards enhance a single figure or force's abilities. For example, when give the FC Rip It Up card to the Hulk, it gives him the ability to rip the ground, and he is now carrying an object which he uses to attack with. This adds to his ability to damage his opponent's figure. |
